Note that we recommend Palm OS version 3.5 or later to run version 1.3* of Jyotish To Go.  Though the program has been compiled for OS versions as early as 2.0 and tested on a 3.0 Palm OS device we cannot guarantee its stability due to bugs in the earlier versions of the Palm OS.

HOW TO USE JYOTISH TO GO

Like most Palm programs Jyotish To Go is very simple to use. If you are new to the Palm OS you may want to acquaint yourself with the instruction manual and some of the Palm device's built in programs. It is also very useful to know the Graffiti™ strokes to use Jyotish To Go.

When you launch Jyotish To Go on your Palm device it will begin by calculating the horoscope for the current time. You can use this horoscope for Prasna or to examine the current transits. The demo version uses a fixed coordinate location and with the fully functional version you can set that location.

These are the 4 views in Jyotish To Go:

INFO CHART DASHAS DIVISIONAL
Intro.jpg (8335 bytes) NChart.jpg (12658 bytes) Dashas.jpg (14146 bytes) Divisional.jpg (18265 bytes)

To select different Views use your stylus to press on the View arrow in the upper right hand corner. pop- up menu will display Info, Chart, Dashas, Divisional, and Prasna.

By selecting Chart you get the chart view of the horoscope. By selecting the menu icon and the Chart Style menu you can change the chart style from Northern to Southern. Whatever chart style you prefer that preference is preserved when you exit the program. Because of the small window resolution of the Pilot it can only display the degree of each planet. Also if there are more than 3 planets in a house their listing will overlap.

The Dasha view displays up to 120 years of the Vimshottari dashas and bhuktis. These are easily scrolled by moving the scrollbar with your stylus or pressing on the up or down arrows. By tapping on a dasha/bhukti the sub-sub periods (pratyantar) are displayed in a pop-up window.

The Divisional view displays the Rashi chart and 12 difference divisional charts.  The 12 divisional chart names are abbreviated (Hor = Hora, Nav = Navamsha). Tapping on the names will switch the chart displayed.

The Prasna view recalculates the Prasna or transit for the given moment.

Entering New Charts. (The demo version will let you enter a chart but will not calculate it. The demo version contains 6 demo charts of famous people.)

Select the Menu icon to display the Edit Menu or enter / N on the Graffiti text area. The Chart Data window will display and you can enter information about the chart. There are some short cuts on this window such as the TimeZone button will display a list of time zones in abbreviated form. The up and done arrows will quickly scroll through the available range of numbers. The Date button will bring up a calendar window for selecting the year, month and day.

After you have entered your Chart Data select Done and the program will calculate the horoscope. At this time the program will automatically save the chart data to Jyotish To Go database. This chart may be retrieved or deleted at any time by selecting Open Chart from the menu. Remember to frequently backup your database to your computer using HotSync™. The archive bit has been set and it will back automatically backup during a Hot Sync session. The name of the database is Jyotish To GoDB.PDB (No database is maintained in the demo version).  You may save up to 65,000 different charts (new in version 1.3 -- Also remember that a large number of charts may take a long time to back up).

By tapping on the Location button the program will display an Atlas window which will search an atlas for that city in the selected database.  To change Atlases select the Select Atlas menu item from the Edit Menu.  The Atlas file must be installed and select before the location search will work.  You may also search the atlas by leaving the city line blank or do searches based on the first few characters of a name.   When a city is selected the longitude, latitude, and timezone will be updated in the Chart Data window.

The Prasna Location may be set by selecting Prasna Location from the menu. You may enter (or use the atlas) the place, longitude and latitude ( for Prasna or current transits. This location is stored when you exit or select another program. When you first use Jyotish To Go you’ll probably want to set this location to where you live otherwise it will use the default location. (Demo version does not store or change the coordinates).

Also added in version 1.3 are Mean Node and Sign Numbers Northern Charts options. Check Mean Node for the Mean Node calculations of Rahu and Ketu.  Check Sign #s for the sign numbers instead of abbreviations in Northern Style Charts.  Version 1.4 fixed a bug which kept the Mean Node and Sign Number settings from being loaded at runtime.

Edit Chart Data allows you to change any of the information about the current chart. It automatically saves those changes back to the database when Done is selected.  Prasna charts cannot be edited but if you want to save the chart just select New Chart and the last Prasna horoscope data is used for default data input.

Technical Note: Because Jyotish To Go is a very small program it has a simplified planetary calculation engine.   On some charts there may be several arc minutes of difference for the slower moving planets when compared to larger desktop programs. Research is underway to reduce the code size of  more precise algorithms so they may be used in Jyotish To Go.
